Tasting Notes

Fresh peach jumps from the glass, followed by aromas of tangerine, lime zest, and white pepper. The citrus fl avor remains steady on the palate, with a slight sensation of minerality, reminiscent of the smell of chalk dust or wet granite. Consider this Gruner with Chilean Sea Bass, prepared with white or black pepper, sea salt and butter, or, as a tasty treat with salty popcorn.

YAKIMA VALLEY AVA

Washington

Yakima Valley, located in south-central Washington, is the state’s oldest federally designated grape-growing region, established in 1983. Covering 665,600 acres, it is a sub-appellation of the Columbia Valley and home to nearly one-third of Washington’s planted vineyard acreage. The valley’s diverse landscape features deep silt-loam soils over basalt bedrock, with an average annual precipitation of just 8 inches. Irrigation from the Yakima River and local aquifers supports the region’s vineyards, where top varieties include Chardonnay, Riesling, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

This AVA is unique for its climatic contrasts, with cooler areas near the Cascade foothills favoring white grape varieties like Chardonnay and Riesling, while the hotter central basin produces high-quality Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Syrah. Yakima Valley’s range of growing conditions contributes to Washington’s reputation for producing exceptional wines across a variety of styles.
