Nestled amidst the quaint town of Cumming, south of the Des Moines metro and surrounded by Iowa’s cornfields, stands the Middlebrook Mercantile. The Mercantile is part of the Middlebrook Agrihood, a development that honors the agricultural legacy of Iowa by integrating farming into the daily life of residents and visitors.
Built in 1900, this historic one-room schoolhouse once provided kindergarten through high school education. Restored and preserved to maintain its original character in 2022, The Merc now serves as a centerpiece for the Middlebrook Agrihood, just as it once served as a centerpiece for the rural town of Cumming.
The Middlebrook Agrihood is a housing and community development that preserves agricultural land where people live. The planned community offers a town center, walkability to amenities, trails, and a community garden with a farm stand while emphasizing health, food, educational opportunities, and access to nature. In addition to serving Capital Call Vintners and offering tasting experiences, The Merc offers a full espresso bar, craft cocktails, beers, and charcuterie.
Located rurally, but only minutes away from downtown Des Moines. Live music every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
